|Biography of Steven Torkel, Ph.D, founder of Torkel
Steve is an Industrial Psychologist, published author, and a proven industry authority on hiring, developing, and retaining employees. In his 14 years with Merrill Lynch, he designed assessment and development systems for Financial Advisors (FAs), managers, teams, support staff, and home office employees. He assessed over 200,000 employees and job candidates.
Steve also managed surveys, executive feedback, and research consulting in many parts of the business. He created the firms wealth management assessment program, and partnered with the executive team to build the new Financial Advisor Development Program. He worked closely with Managing Directors and senior FAs to develop the hiring process, training curriculum, coaching program and developmental assessments.
Before joining Merrill Lynch, Steve consulted to AT&T's Selection and Testing Group. He helped to create and validate assessment centers, biodata inventories, structured interviews, and job knowledge tests.
In 2003, Steve left Merrill Lynch and founded Torkel Research. He focuses on three areas: Tests and Assessments, Organizational Development, and Metrics. Recent clients include Merrill Lynch / Bank of America, Raymond James, UBS and Janney Montgomery Scott.
